It’s overwhelming sometimes when you ponder the home cooking journey for your dog. There are so many things you will read that you want or think you need to do right away.
The problem with that is you may end up focussing on things that are relatively less important than other things. So many ideas can paralyse you with fear and uncertainty that you can’t even make a start.
One technique I used to help me is a technique I use regularly in my day job as an IT Solution Architect – the MoSCoW technique . It’s a prioritisation method used to categorise what you need to do into 4 buckets that determine the importance of each, in relation to the other.
These 4 buckets and what they mean are:

I categorised what I learned into each bucket, so that I knew what I first had to focus on and get right and allowed me to deliver immediate value to Goose’s diet while I was still learning what I could about home cooking.
Here are the general items I categorised into a home cooking MoSCoW.

This list changes constantly depending on what I learn. At the start of my cooking journey, I had almost everything under Must Have, but I slowly simplified it as I progressed.
Having such a list also allows me to jot down what I learn so I can circle back to it later, when I have the time or bandwidth. In some cases, I might re-prioritise based on new information.
This is the MoSCoW specific to what I’ve decided for Goose. Based on my research for Goose’s specific situation.

What you choose as your MoSCoW may be totally different to mine. What’s a must have for me might be a nice to have for you. What’s a will not have for me might be the most burning must have for you. That’s fine too. Unlike others, I’m not trying to force my choices down your throat, as so many people seem to like to do when it comes to this topic. My message is mainly about the technique , not so much how or what I chose to prioritise.
In summary , you must prioritise what you need to do to go into home cooking for your dog. This will help you just get a start and adjust as you go, reducing stress on yourself and providing clarity in the face of so much information and competing advice.
